At Apex, Street, we offer anti-wrinkle injections, most commonly used around the eyes and forehead. All of our anti-wrinkle injections are performed by registered dentists.
What anti-wrinkle injections do you use?
Botulinum toxin type A, commonly known as Botox is a naturally derived protein which acts upon nerve endings to reduce the action of these nerves and thereby the muscles which they supply. When used cosmetically it reduces the strength of the muscles of the face that cause the lines and wrinkles that come with age. The most common areas of the face that develop lines are frown lines, crows’ feet and the horizontal lines across the forehead. There are a number of different products that contain this protein, the most widely known brand-name is Botox. We will always discuss which brand we will be using for each individual.
Is it safe?
This type of anti-wrinkle injection has been used for many years very safely in various medical conditions e.g. cerebral palsy and for around 20 years for cosmetic use. Side effects are very rare but allergic reactions and effects on other muscles to those being treated have been reported in the medical press. All potential risks and side effects will be discussed in full at your consultation appointment.
What does the procedure involve?
An ultrafine needle is used to inject the protein into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. Botox generally takes at least seven days to take full effect.
Prior to treatment we like to see individuals for a case assessment to make sure the procedure is suitable for you. This consultation is free of charge (we ask for a small refundable deposit to secure your appointment). Following this consultation we will book an appointment for you to come back and have your treatment. Once your treatment is complete we will then review you 2 weeks later to check the effects of treatment and top-up where required.
How long does it last?
The effects of Botox are temporary and last from 3-6 months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and will need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. On the whole it has been proved to be a very safe and effective procedure.
